Larry H. Miller Employees Holiday Giving 2017
During the 2017 holiday season, employees of Larry H. Miller dealerships in Colorado volunteered their time in the communities they serve, donated more than $75,000 to various charitable programs, and collected toys at the dealerships for area children and families.
Denver Santa Claus Shop
Representatives from Larry H. Miller (LHM) Dealerships presented a check for $10,000 to the Denver Santa Claus Shop (DSCS) during the grand opening of the annual Christmas store on December 8, 2017. The donation allows the organization to purchase toys, books and games for children, ages newborn to 11 years old. The shop is open to per-qualified, low-income families, referred by social service agencies, whose children might not otherwise have a Christmas.Â

In addition to the $10,000 grant, Denver-area LHM dealerships collected toys at their stores throughout the month of November to support the nonprofit's goal to provide "a toy to every girl and boy." Since 1931, DSCS has honored their founder's mission to provide toys to as many children of low-income families as possible at Christmas. Throughout the history of the organization, more than one million local children have benefited and received gifts during the holidays.Â
Arvada Sunrise Rotary
Supporting Rotary International, the Arvada Sunrise Rotary is an organization of professionals united worldwide who provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Larry H. Miller Charities made a donation to their 11th Annual Food and Wine Caper to help the Arvada Sunrise Rotary continue their fantastic community and service projects.Â
When the staff of Larry H. Miller Volkswagen met the remarkable group of people from Work Options for Women, they were thrilled to offer them $3,500 for changing the lives of our neighbors who are in need of professional guidance and a plan for self-sufficiency. Work Options for Women's mission is to help impoverished women gain the skills and confidence they need to work their way out of poverty and become gainfully and permanently employed in the food service industry.Â
For children with disabilities who struggle in the public school system, Special L.I.N.K.S. Learning Center offers a myriad of educational programs helping students develop fundamental skills and a sense of achievement they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives. Students from Special L.I.N.K.S. can often be seen walking past one of the LHM dealerships on their way to the bus stop. LHM Charities reached out and made a contribution to this valuable community resource.
The number of Colorado children living in poverty has increased dramatically in recent years and many lack appropriate dental care. LHM Charities is helping to bridge that gap through a donation to Dental Aid, a nonprofit group that provides oral health care services to low-income, uninsured families and individuals living in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.Â
The Action Center
Each year The Action Center distributes school supplies to low-income children living in Jefferson County. Packets include basic items such as crayons, markers and paper for younger children, and specialty items such as protractors, calculators and compasses for high school students. Larry H. Miller Charities donated funding to this worthy cause.Â
CASA of Jefferson & Gilpin Counties Breaking the cycle of abuse and securing safe, permanent, nurturing homes in which children can thrive is one of the main focuses of CASA of Jefferson & Gilpin Counties. Since their inception in 2000, CASA has served more than 1,500 abused and neglected children with their highly trained court volunteers that serve as independent investigators, decreasing the amount of time a child will spend in long-term foster care. Larry H. Miller Charities is proud to support CASA and the children of this community.Â
The Gathering Place
"A refuge for rebuilding lives" is the motto of The Gathering Place, Denver's only daytime drop-in center for women, children and transgender individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness. For the 2013 LHM Day of Service, Larry H. Miller Volkswagen planned, prepared and served lunch for the 200 people relying on The Gathering Place's resources for meals and shelter each day. Larry H. Miller Charities applauds and supports the efforts of The Gathering Place as they make a difference for thousands of women and children in the Denver area each year.Â
The Arvada Community Food Bank
Larry H. Miller employees donated $5,000 to The Arvada Community Food Bank to help support the "Feeding the Future Backpack" program, which provides food to children at 13 Arvada and Wheat Ridge elementary schools each weekend for the entire school year. These schools have a high percentage of children on the "Free and Reduced Lunch" programs. For many of these students, the majority of their food comes from the meals served while they're in school. Donating $100 covers the costs of one child for the school year.
As a grassroots nonprofit foundation that supports families of children who are critically ill, There With Care also works closely with hospital and hospice agencies to identify those in need of support, and licensed social workers screen families to determine gaps in resources. Assistance is provided through programs that focus on needs such as patient and sibling support, transportation, home maintenance, meals and other basic necessities. Larry H. Miller Charities' donation helped provide baby-care essentials to families with infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Paula DuPré Pesmen, executive director of There With Care, writes, "This grant will reach 80 families with children facing critical illness and they will feel your care as do all of us here."Â
Hope House of Colorado
Larry H. Miller Volkswagen Lakewood presented a check for $10,000 to the Hope House of Colorado on Dec. 14, 2016. The $10,000 in grant aid will help fund the G.E.D. programs for teen mothers supported by the organization. The donation is being presented as part of the Larry H. Miller Dealership's "5 Weeks of Giving" campaign to help positively impact the lives of Coloradans throughout the holiday season. During the 2016 holiday season, Larry H. Miller dealership employees across Colorado are presenting more than $50,000 in monetary support of kids and families, an volunteering their time in the community they serve.
