Have you ever been sitting at a red light when you look across at the car stopped next to you and are struck dumb with car envy? Right there in that intersection is the car of your dreams, and some other bloke is driving it. The design team at Volkswagen seems to be on the verge of producing yet another car that will strike car envy in anyone who doesn't have one.

The new 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT, set to hit the market sometime this spring, is about to become one of the coolest sport sedans designed by the automaker. What makes it even cooler? It's produced right here in the United States. We just want to tell you about it so you can start saving your pennies so you can be the recipient of car envy in America.
Nobody would associate Volkswagen with the U.S. on first glance, but this new project is completely homegrown out of the design garage in Chattanooga, Tennessee, just around the corner from where VW builds the Passat and Atlas.
"The result is a pretty aggressive car, where you see the sporty genes of Volkswagen coming through," says Michael Lovati, Volkswagen Group of America Vice President.
Taking their inspiration cues from other models like the VW Gold GTI and the Passat R-Line, the new GT is designed with sportier lines and the feel you would expect from a sports car. With a unique sport suspension and 19-inch Tornado wheels, the sporty nature of this vehicle combines bravado with practicality.
Under the hood you will find the Passat has a heart that beats with the same passion of its exterior. Boasting a 3.6-litre V6 engine, churning out 280 horsepower at 6,200 rpm, this little sedan has nothing but power under its hood.

Let's remember that this is still a sedan we are talking about. Not an American-made muscle car-meaning it still comes with all the convenient features of a sedan. With a six-speed DSG Tritronic automatic transmission, even the most novice car enthusiast will get a thrill from taking the GT to the grocery store.
Don't underestimate the standard features. After all, this is still a Volkswagen. From the contrasting stitching in the interior to the leather-wrapped steering wheel to the 6.3-inch display equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, two USB ports, and satellite radio, this latest addition to the lineup leaves little to be desired. And for some reason, every article has to mention the LED headlights and daytime running lights. At this point we thought those were pretty much standard issue. But, hey, we won't pass up any additional opportunities to brag about this model even more.
While it's still a couple months out from hitting the lot, excitement for the new 2018 Passat GT has fans jumping at the chance to get their hands on the wheel. This new member of the Volkswagen family blurs the line between the sport class and luxury sedan, all seamlessly integrated into an exceptional American design. You will never walk away disappointed, but everyone will surely burn with envy for the great wheels you're driving. If you're excited to make a trade, see what you can put towards your Passat GT.
