Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Names 2016 Volkswagen Passat Top Safety Pick

Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety puts every new model of car through rigorous crash tests in order to see which vehicle is the safest. Volkswagen of America, Inc is proud to announce that the 2016 IIHS top safety pick rating has been awarded to the 2016 Passat.

“The Passat’s IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award demonstrates Volkswagen’s longstanding commitment to vehicle safety and the development of innovative technologies,” said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “Features such as Active Blind Spot Monitor and perpendicular Park Assist are unique to the segment and not typically seen outside of the luxury market.”

The IIHS tests each vehicle based on criteria that includes: roof and side strength, head restraint performance and small and moderate front overlap rating. The 2016 Passat received “good” rankings in these categories, which is the highest rating that can be received.

Volkswagen has always prided itself on producing safe, high performing vehicles. With a totally reinforced structure, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and multiple emergency braking systems, the 2016 Passat has distanced itself from the competition as one of the safest vehicles on the road.

While Volkswagen is excited about the top spot, receiving safety awards isn’t exactly a new concept for them. Since the current crash rating system was implemented in 2013, Volkswagen models have consistently ranked at or near the top of the rankings, making the VW name synonymous with safety.

Other Volkswagen models to receive the 2016 IIHS Top Safety Pick rating include Jetta, Golf 4-door, SportWagen and Golf GTI 4-door. For more information on vehicle safety rankings, visit lhmvw.com.
