Safety Starts With the VIN

NHTSA identifies two safety concerns for the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible. The Air Bag recall involves a driver-side inflator that may explode after exposure to humidity, heat, and temperature cycling, potentially sending sharp metal fragments into the cabin and causing serious injury or death. The Key Removal recall involves a shift-lever microswitch condition that may permit key removal when the transmission is not in Park, increasing the risk of an unintended rollaway or crash.
